Trezeguet reveals special link-up with compatriot Elmohamady

Trezeguet revealed a training ground routine with compatriot Ahmed Elmohamady was behind his last-gasp injury-time winner which sent Aston Villa to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

The forward connected with a deep cross to the far post from fellow Egypt international and second-half substitute Elmohamady to volley home a 93rd-minute winner and send Villa Park into raptures.

Trezeguet’s late winner sealed a dramatic 3-2 aggregate victory over the Foxes as the club secured a spot in their first major cup final since 2015 and third successive Wembley visit in as many seasons.

And, talking post-match to VillaTV, the 25-year-old said his winner was something he had worked on with Elmohamady.

“We always talk in training about this ball, and when he takes the ball I say to him ‘far post’, but in Arabic so nobody understands, and he did it,” he said.

“After we scored, and we go to Wembley, it’s the best feeling."

He continued: “It was a great moment to score and we go to Wembley.

“We worked very hard and because of this we deserved to go to Wembley and I’m very happy for the goal to help the team.”

Trezeguet added: “The fans made a great game for us.

“We don’t play alone, when the fans are with us, always support us, we will get what we want.

“We need them always, support like that every game, we will get what we want with them.

“It’s not just 11, or 18 or 30 players, with the fans we can achieve what we want.”
