At a glance

2019 comes to a close for Aston Villa Women on Sunday when they take on London City Lionesses at home.

Gemma Davies’ team will top the table heading into the New Year if they extend their unbeaten league run to 11 games.

Villa have notched up four straight league victories and come into the game on the back of a 5-2 League Cup triumph against Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday night.

Opponents London City, who sit fourth in the table, lost to Sheffield United last time out in the league and suffered a 3-2 defeat at Villa’s hands earlier in the season.

Team news

Head Coach Davies has almost a full squad to pick from for this weekend’s game.

Ella Franklin-Fraiture is the only long-term injury absentee after she broke her ankle earlier in the season.

Davies also has selection dilemmas after several players starred in their midweek win, which saw Kerri Welsh, Shania Hayles and Charlotte Greengrass turn in great performances.

A new pricing structure is in operation for Women’s games during the 2019/20 season, meaning fans will save money by buying online in advance of a fixture.

Tickets cost £5 adults and £2 concessions (U18 and O65) when buying online, as opposed to £7 adults and £3 concessions when purchasing at the turnstile on the day.

You can buy your tickets here. There are also changes for men’s Season Ticket Holders, who will need to claim their free ticket online ahead of any fixture.

If the free ticket has not been claimed, men’s Season Ticket Holders will be required to pay the On The Day price of £7 adults and £3 concessions.

The Boss

Gemma Davies

“London City gave us a great game at their home ground earlier in the season, and we are expecting another big battle.

“But with players, staff and fans pulling in the same direction, I believe we can be successful this week and on into the New Year.

“We’ve had a tremendous 2019 so far and we want to finish off the year on a high.”
